It's the most wonderful time of the year...

I'm getting really excited about this time of year.

No, not Christmas, nimrod - I actually rather hate Christmas (humbug, etc.). I'm talking about booking my GDC trip.

This will be my first time to GDC; with no E3 anymore, I've got to find another way to get my annual dose of California, and GDC has the perk of being related to my job. The best part is, I can shell out a load of cash on the trip, and it's all a massive tax writeoff, since it's for "business purposes." Meheheh... stick that in your auditing pipe and smoke it, IRS. Smoke it hard. Take monster hits off that pipe until your damned evil lungs bleed.

I had something of a tradition of staying at real flea-bags for E3; it usually ended up a lot cheaper to get a craptacular room a block or 5 from the convention center than to get a nice room and have to rent a car for a week.

Thankfully, though, it looks like GDC will spare me that unpleasant choice... I've got pick of several really nice hotels on Union Square, and it's all easy walking distance to GDC itself, plus Fisherman's Wharf and all kinds of other San Francisco landmarks.

So today I'm looking over options for accommodation, plane tickets, and all that jazz. By the end of the week I plan to be the proud owner of a GDC pass and a helluva vacation coming up in February.

I feel a nerdgasm coming on.

Oh, yeah, baby. Just like that.

ah, GDC.. how I'd like to go.. alas a lack of cash prevents and even if I did get a job now I'm not sure swaning off for a week about a month into it would be a good idea [grin]

Wait, does your company have to be in on this? Can I swing that even if I work in the defense industry? It's still, you know... similar. Just my missiles are real.

I'm technically self-employed, so I can write off things pretty much on a whim (within "legal constraints" obviously).
