Teachin' myself Director now with thoughts towards using it for further game development. C++ and SDL and such are nice, but there's just something to having an established tool for which to develop your stuff where every conceivable problem you might have has already been solved. Director's been around since about 1986, so they've had a bit of time to get the bugs out. Its scripting language bugs me, though. It strikes me as yet another one of those attempts to make an English-like scripting language. I much prefer Flash's ActionScript (AKA JavaScript AKA JScript AKA ECMAScript), but I'll take what I can get. It's quite capable for creating standalone apps as well as embedded web-thingies.

Kudos to Amazon again. Ordered the 8.0-8.5 update, and it arrived the next day. Gotta love that.

Also got a recommendation. If you wanna try developing games with Flash or Director, check out Gary Rosenzweig's books. His book on Flash games was absolutely perfect for my needs, with plenty of small examples of how to do everything. Using his book, I was able to get a Flash game going in a. . .Flash!

I've got his book of Director games on the way. I can't wait to start digging through it.
