Solution for NbrOfPosts abusing (maybe)

What about having a voting system instead of just counting the number of posts. One way this voting system could work is that every user has one vote that they can place on one other user (not himself). This would not require a lot of resources of the server since you only need two variables that keep the current user that you vote for and the number of users that votes for you. The user should of course be able to change its vote anytime he or she wants. That way if a user wants to keep the number of votes on himself he has to be active and useful in the forums. I think this could minimize the risk of people posting just to get higher rank. Do you think something like this would be feasible? - WitchLord

Sounds good to me.

Oops, I did it again. Just kidding.

What? Is this like, vote for King of Gamedev?

We''re looking at finding a solution to many of the problems we''ve had here. We''re looking very closely at what Slashdot has done. It''ll take some time to implement though.
in other words you want to stop "idiots" like me and pouya from getting a high status that we dont actually care about anyway? dave, you dont have to hide behind that diplomatic persona of yours. you''ve already proved that you can quite easily bring yourself down to my level.

MENTAL
Look, MENTAL, the user levels are just there for fun. This isn''t about this. If you''re familiar with the Slashdot system at all, you''ll know that they allow message filtering, so if people don''t want to see messages like yours, they won''t and everyone''s happy.

If you''re going to leave, then just leave. Don''t keep making posts trying to get a rise out of me. You don''t know me, so don''t try to pretend you do. If you have something to say to me, send me an e-mail. This kind of thing just drags the forums down.
I think the ranking system is fine for now. The whole "uh, no" thread had nothing to do with the status of the posters. Trust me, I was one of those morons. I hope that was what you were talking about Witchlord. There are only a few people who actually post to get to saintanism. I do mean just a few. Most of them are newbies. The people that were posting there did not really say much about wanting to get a higher rank.

Intelligent voting system proposal:

- You can rate people (instead of voting) (every person can give 4 different ratings to 4 different people for example) (total loser, professional, specialist, guru)
- For a person with a higher rating - this person''s vote weighs more. (newbies get less to say)
nes8bit, I didn''t see the "uh, no" thread before it was deleted but I hear that it managed to get up to about 20 pages in a few hours. And no I don''t think it managed to do this on the grounds that the posters would get higher status. That would be too obvious.

I''ll let you in on a secret I''m am one of the guys that post to get higher rank. The difference between me and the rest of the guys that are doing it is that I don''t post junk. (At least I hope no one sees it as such ) For those who don''t already know it, I used the Spellbound account before and together with that I have almost a thousand posts.

Anyway, I just thought of this way because I think that the number of post counting system is useless. It doesn''t say anything about how useful you have been to the forum.

baskuenen, I like the idea, but it would be very difficult to implement such a system. Maybe if all users had the same weights to their votes it would be good.

I have a question about the current rating system.
When when does the rank change?
