Confused

I have a almost completed game. I say almost because there is still room for improvement. What I''m so confused about is what would be the correct route to take for publishing my game. Should I try to self publish or look for a publisher like eGameZone.net or just give the game away for free and ask for donations. I thinking of leaning more towards eGameZone but not sure I''ve heard some good things and bad things. Any help would be greatly appreciated. If anybody wants to check out the demo I will leave a link down below Thanks PaulJ Resolte

PaulJ,

I never used eGameZone, so I can't say anything, but there was a recent thread about them at the dexterity msg board. http://www.dexterity.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=777 which you should read and then decide for yourself.

If you want to give the game away for free, then don't bother asking for donations. People won't give you any, cause they already have the full product. I've read on forums where donations never work.

I've played your game, and it's pretty fun. I couldn't get used to the controls though. I liked DB much better .

I have a game in development, and I plan to sell it myself on my own website. What I plan to do is get some decent hosting, sign up with an ecommerce solution (www.kagi.com, www.bmtmicro.com,...many more), and put the game up on as many shareware sites as possible, and try to sell it myself. If you don't want to do any of that, then I suggest you research a publisher.

http://www.fogwarepublishing.com/game.htm
http://www.the-underdogs.org/
http://www.gamepad.com/
http://www.realarcade.com/ (They currently have a $100k contest)

I've never used any of the above but take a look and use your own judgement . It's also a good idea to join the shareware association. http://www.asp-shareware.org/. Goodluck.

John.

PaulJ,
that''s a cute game, and I actually rather enjoyed playing it! I can see people spending a tenner on it for sure. But you''ve got to improve your marketing skills by, oh, 1000% or so. In your original post you haven''t even managed to mention what kind of game it is, let alone why anyone should bother downloading it! So go for it, tell everyone.

z3lda,
Thanks for the info I will start looking over the sites and taking a long hard look into game publishing and marketing.

princec,
You are absolutely correct about my marketing skills, what was I thinking about? If I can't get people excited about my game why would they bother to download it. Thanks for making me see the light

You might try http://www.Xgames3D.com/ ... and by the way, I am NOT Andre Lamothe (someone posted a link to that thread on the dexterity forums, if you don't get it, don't worry)

EDIT: Here it is: http://www.gamedev.net/community/forums/topic.asp?topic_id=153566

The donationware approach might get you enough spare change to make a long distance call with 1-800-COLLECT if you''re very lucky.
