Well there are plenty of agencies specialising in games, and a few listings sites such as: http://www.gamesrecruit.com

Some of the agencies will do headhunting for you, though usually of already employed staff.

If you mean "scouting" for inexperienced/unemployed designers who might have talent, then its doubtful. There are far too many people out there with no games experience who''d like to be game designers who''re saying "hey, I''ve got a good idea for a game" - the problem is those people don''t realise how much of a gap there is between an "idea" and a balanced game. 99% of "Ideas" for games on their own are worthless without the full detail, viable target market and importantly funding.

If you''re asking from the candidates point of view rather than the employers point view, then realistically nobody hires inexperienced designers. All the designers I''ve ever met have worked their way up/across from other jobs (testing, art etc)

It depends if that''s "game designers" or "level designers".

The latter is quite common, a lot of companies have picked up people who''ve designed good game mods to design levels, and is one of the routes into game design that I didn''t mention.

A game designer has a hell of a lot more responsibility though. Like I say all the game designers I''ve met and heard of worked their way up through other ranks (like level design).

i meant entry-level game designers. i think i saw it on their site before. Right now on their site, it only says senior game designer, but i am pretty sure i saw entry-level game designer before. Its not like they are the only designer on a project, though. I imagine they are like apprentices to the senior designer. IDK though, maybe my my memory is messed up.
