Winsock or Directplay?

Should I use Directplay or winsock directly? I''ve heard that DP is slow but it has automatic packet loss checking etc. good stuff. I''ve already programmed a small client/server game using winsock directly (udp) but it suffers much from packet loss now and I was thinking that maybe I shouldn''t invent the whell again.

So use TCP with Winsock instead

DP8 is a lot better than DP4...
It provides several desirable features for udp communications. Packet throttling, packet prioritizing, cancelation, confirmationm, etc...
