Stretching Windows

Right now I have a Window I create at a
fullscreen size to go into Direct-X..
Before I go into the game though, I'd like
to have a little startup menu, so people can
choose things.. A box in the middle of the
screen, before people go into the game..
Still in the regular windows environment..
Is the best way to create one box, and then
go to the other, or is there a way I can
create the original box, and then stretch it
to fit the screen size before I go into
DirectX.

Brandon,

I think I know what your talking about, an options dialog right? An initial dialog where the player can choose to configure options, load a saved game, play a new game, etc..?

If I remember right, this is what Fallout I&II did, as well as Diablo and probably others.

In that case, the behavior seemed to be a simple dialog that may have a bitmap for a background, and maybe some image buttons, but it was still just a dialog.

Then, once the player chooses an option that would launch your game (new or load game), you just kill the dialog and start your game as normal.
