So I take it you want the characters and the monsters to fight?

Well, how about something is driving the monsters into town causing chaos and such. This something could be some form of boldness from the monsters or another monster far worse than anything outside of town is forcing them inwards
iv since moved on from the (bad) plot that led to this question, but at the time i was asking more for a reason for there to even be monsters at all. After all, in the real world, even the bears to run around attacking people, much less the rabbits.

Roffle.

Seriously, put the player/characters in danger or hurt them somehow. Characters with purely idealistic motivations are usually harder for the average player to sympathize with, in my opinion.

In other words, we're not all zealots, but every one of us bleeds, and every one of us understands "fight or flight."
