Does anyone USE DirectMusic?

I want to be able to play a certain note at a certain time without worrying about key signatures, tempos, chord maps, etc. I don't want to play a MIDI file or anything like that, just simple notes.

I have looked at the SDK, and I see how to call a SendPMsg to the Performance object, but that worries to much about all the above mentioned items. I just want a simple MIDI style message, and I can't find any samples to do this.

I basically want to create a program that helps people learn guitar chords and scales.

If anyone has ANY ideas on how something like this is done, let me know.
