Back to the lego analogy-- Existing game engines are like the end result of following the included step by step instructions. Each time you follow them, you end up in the same spot. I say: forget them. Take the blocks (computer language syntax) and build your own damn six-wheel hotrod with dragon wings! Let your imagination run wild.
