I've bee quite hands off since I created the thing, but enjoying to watch the evolution of it, to see it ported to so many languages, more than I can possibly imagine.

It was clearly for academic purposes, even though I was not in academy at the time.
But I wanted to fully understand how "things" were dealt with in games. I knew everything was a "entity", but did not know much more. Adam Martin helped me understand a lot of things and I decided to make a functional implementation.
Entity component system should be called Associative Entity System, because all components are associative in nature, thus entities are merely associative.
