Ýes, he is right. However this is possible more a fresh topic.

You can check the asp-shareware memberlist on:
http://www.asp-shareware.org/membership/memberlist.asp

There you find all the shareware companies.
You will find out that most of them are developing business and utility software. So there are not much out there doing game software. And the game companies you will find are mostly developing card games, puzzles, board games, casino games.
And are mostly specialized in a specific game type.
So thats a clue that for these type of games there is a real market online. But you need to have something original and then promote it online very well.

Below are about 50 shareware game companies. A couple of them are also developing other type of software. Perhaps you can contact them and ask if they have tips to help you.

Card and Puzzle games are the most available shareware games online.

So for online marketing these games seem to be succesfully.

Remember you need to have an orginal concept end promote it as well.

There are 3 persons in this forum who seem to have financial success with shareware games.
Jester101: earned enough money to not have to work beside his university studies, which sounds like a big success to me.
DavidRM: success with online-game "paintball"
Cliffski: sold several games through publishers

...but how much they earned - no one knows - too bad ... ;-)
