The next big step is for people to realize that stream processing, while good for certain classes of problems, totally sucks for others - namely, those for which out-of-order pipelined processors have become so advantageous. Then we'll see hybrid multi-core solutions and the whole SMP thing will give way to much more sensible approaches.
In any case, it's good that there is such early recognition for the software needs in this thing. Making the software side easier is what will drive the hardware advances ever further, and incidentally it's a perfect opportunity to overthrow some of the inferior tools that dominate the business today.
Good stuff.
